Mehrdad Eskenasi with Shahsavan Nomads

Mehrdad Mike Eskenasi

Mehrdad is an ethnographic photographer based in Tehran. He’s always been full of curiosity and enthusiasm—constantly looking for the next adventure. Any chance he got, he’d hit the road, exploring hidden corners of Iran and the world’s remote destinations. That deep passion for travel and discovery eventually led him to create Adventure Iran, which grew into one of the country’s top adventure travel companies over the past 20 years.
After years of running tours for many travelers from around the world and exploring nearly every corner of Iran, in 2020 Mehrdad finally decided to follow his lifelong dream: diving fully into the world of photography. His main focus is documenting the lives of nomads and tribes—capturing their disappearing traditions, authentic lifestyles, and the raw beauty of their world.
Over the past three years, he has been walking alongside Iran’s Bakhtiari nomads during their seasonal migration—an epic journey through the Zagros Mountains—to experience and document one of the last great foot migrations in the modern world.
