Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

Every twelve years, the ancient city of Prayagraj becomes the spiritual heart of India, where millions of Hindu pilgrims gather at the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Considered the largest peaceful gathering of humanity on Earth, the Kumbh Mela is far more than a religious festival—it is a profound expression of faith, devotion, and hope.

Rooted in Hindu mythology, the festival commemorates the drops of the nectar of immortality believed to have fallen upon four sacred cities: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. During this sacred period, pilgrims believe that bathing in the holy waters purifies both body and soul.

In February 2025, I photographed the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. While the sheer scale of the gathering was extraordinary, I found myself drawn to its intimate moments—the silent prayers before dawn, the weathered faces of pilgrims, and the quiet expressions of faith that emerged amid the countless crowds. These photographs are my attempt to reveal the human stories hidden within one of the world’s most remarkable spiritual journeys.
